My Dream, My Solution

“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul; the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” Napoleon Hill

The principal, teaching artist, classroom teachers and the 90 students at North Shore Elementary School who participated in the Literary Artist Residency “My Dream, My Solution” are to be congratulated for their fabulous work! For five months during the 06-07 school year the fifth grade classroom curriculum was strategically linked with presentations by Literary Teaching Artist Nan Colton. Essays, photographs and collages on the theme of “My Dream, My Solution” were created by the students in response. Their work proved to be moving, creative and innovative.

A Balancing Act

The 07-08 Literary Artist Residency “A Balancing Act” with Teaching Artist Nan Colton will take place from February - May at North Shore Elementary School. Exploring all aspects of the theme of balance, the residency will kick off with a visit to Weedon Island to explore the importance of ecosystems. The residency will culminate with a trip to the Progress Energy Center’s Mahaffey Theater to experience Kevin Reese’s one man performance of “A Perfect Balance” inspired by the life of mobile sculptor artist Alexander Calder. A Writers & Artist reception will showcase students mobile sculptures and written works on the theme of (what else?) balance! A catalogue of student work will be published documenting the student’s four month journey!

Check back from time to time to see the update on this most model of programs that cultivates the curriculum and offers visits to community organizations and professional theater performances linked to the theme of balance.

WELCOME TO THE CLASS ACTS BLOG!

Posted in A Cheery WELCOME! by admin on the April 19th, 2007

It is our hope that the Class Acts blog will be a home for important conversations and a source of valued information. Comments and questions on the Class Acts blog are both welcomed and encouraged. To get started teachers and students will have the opportunity to post questions and comments to the performance companies, to the actors OR to their favorite character! Students participating in a Class Acts Community Arts program can create on-going conversations about their particular artist residency, master class or workshop with each other and with students from partnering schools!

Stay tuned for more information and more categories to choose from in which to communicate!
